Responsibility...
As part of learning to take care of one's equipment, shooters
are required to perform a "quick clean" on their rifles every time before they shoot. About
every tenth time, they break down their rifles and complete a "thorough clean".
Because the junior club is allowed exclusive use of the indoor range on Friday evenings,
we show our thanks by emptying the trash and sweeping the brass before shooting.
Fun shoots...
Once a month (the first Friday of the month), shooters may bring
fun things to shoot as a diversion from their paper targets. Some ideas: stuffed animals, books, shoes, old toys, balloons,
aluminum cans, CDs, hanging ice cubes, etc. Items may not resemble a person, create a hazard, or make a mess which cannot
be cleaned up. We have spinning targets and other goodies available in case members forget to bring something.
We always welcome donations to our "fun box"!
Tech Talk...
The first Friday of the month is our night for an occasional
"tech talk". Short informal lectures are given on various topics related to firearms and shooting. Some of our talks have
included stock checkering, blueing, reloading, shotguns, handguns, sights, safety, improving shooting positions, and legal
aspects of gun ownership. We have even had a rapid fire demonstration, and a talk from an officer from the D.A.R.E. program.
The tech talks are interesting for young members as well as their parents.
Meetings...
Our junior club
has a President, Vice President, and Secretary, who preside at meetings quarterly. We welcome new members, discuss shooting
achievements and club activities, as well as other issues. Following Robert's Rules of Order is our mission
at the meetings. Members are encouraged to speak up and participate when called upon.
Competition Shoots...
Once a month, shooters who are present are divided into
random teams, and shoot at a specially marked competition target. The team with the highest score wins a little prize!
