"Safety, safety, safety"

We are dedicated to educating youth about safe firearm handling.  Before they are allowed to fire a rifle, our members attend an orientation with a certified firearms instructor.  The new members watch a safety video, learn about safety and range rules, and practice how to safely handle an unloaded rifle before being allowed to shoot on the range under direct one-on-one supervision.

As they progress, members must pass a variety of safety tests before they can shoot on any given evening.  Any infraction of the rules, "horse play", or a negative or dangerous attitude will not be tolerated.

We encourage:
  • Common courtesy
  • Respect and understanding for others
  • Teamwork, helpfulness, support for each other
  • Positive, optimistic attitudes
  • Good citizenship

The NRA rules for safe gun handling:

Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

Be sure the gun is safe to operate.

Know how to use the gun safely.

Use only the correct ammunition for your gun.

Know your target, and what is beyond.

Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate.

Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting.

Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.

Be aware that certain types of guns and many shooting activities require additional safety precautions.
