About the Junior Rifle Club:
The San Leandro Junior Optimist Rifle Club is open to youth 10 to
20 years of age. Its purpose is to develop sportsmanship, discipline, and citizenship in youth through the safe participation
in the shooting sports as well as involvement in some community service and fund raising events.
Members are taught how to safely handle and fire .22 caliber rifles
following courses established by the National Rifle Association (NRA).
The
cost is $40.00 per year, and includes range fees and the use of club rifles. Members may use their own rifle after it is inspected
and approved by one of our NRA certified instructors. To participate in the club, a parent must sign a permission slip, then
tests emphasizing safety must be passed. Members are required to wear eye and ear protection while on the range. Ammunition
is available from the club.
The club is affiliated with both the NRA and the "Junior Optimist
Octagon International" (JOOI)... an international community service organization helping youth to develop leadership abilities
and encouraging responsibility. Our members are encouraged to participate in club fundraising events, as well as occasional
community service functions.
The San Leandro Junior Optimist Rifle Club meets most Friday evenings
from 7:00 to 9:00 at the San Leandro Rifle and Pistol Range on Davis Street in San Leandro. The classroom and indoor
range are reserved exclusively for the junior club during this time.
